Long Cup (Mugs Cup)
The Long Handicap Cup or 'Long Cup' was first presented in 1947 by the Cumbria Golf Alliance as a knockout competition among members with handicaps ranging from 17 to 24. Originally it could be won outright by three successive wins or five wins in total. In 1951 there was disapproval of such a title for a club trophy, but after some discussion it was decided not to alter it. Presently the Cup is more widely known as the 'Mugs Cup' and is contested by division 3 golfers (handicaps 14 to 36) and the cup cannot be won outright.
