How do I put in ‘casual round’ scores for handicap purposes?

Casual Round scores are ‘social golf’ scores that are used to adjust your handicap i.e. extra scores that affect your handicap that are not played in an official competition.

It is good practice to return regular, qualifying scores either in competitions or as casual rounds to ensure your handicap reflects your true, current playing ability.

How do I access the BRS system to make and view tee bookings?

You can access Member Booking on the BRS system via the ‘Book Online’ option at the top right of the club website. You will need to register the first time you access the system using the BRS User Id issued to you with your joining instructions – ask at the office if you can’t find your number.

Once registered, you can view the daily timesheet and book tee times for both competitions and casual play.

We recommend you download the user-friendly BRS app if you have a smartphone.

How do I book into a club competition?

Competition booking is done via the BRS system. Once you are registered on BRS (see above) you will see a list of upcoming competitions. Those open for booking are coloured green. Simply click on the competition and select your tee time.

How do I book a tee time for casual golf?

Tee time booking for casual golf is done via the BRS system. Members may have a maximum of 3 live bookings in the next 7 days but can book up to 14 days in advance. See Casual Golf Booking Rules for further details.

Can I invite guests to play?

Yes, you are encouraged to bring guests to play. Guests of members pay a significantly reduced green fee rate.

Can we please remind all members, that their guests must be booked in on BRS and paid for prior to playing.

This can be done by calling either the Pro Shop or Office on 01229582824 and paying by credit / debit card or by visiting the Pro Shop or Office in person.

What are the main things I need to know about ‘golf etiquette’?

Please ALWAYS follow these simple rules:

  • Repair your pitch marks
  • Rake bunkers after use
  • Replace divots
  • Do not take your trolley between the green and greenside bunkers – take them around the outside of greenside bunkers
  • Allow following groups to play through if they are moving at a faster pace

What are the different formats of competition play?

The basic forms of scoring in golf are Stroke Play and Match Play but there are many variations of these such as stableford, bogey/par, foursomes, greensomes, fourballs, texas scramble, etc.

Can I start at the 10th hole if the 1st tee is busy?

Yes you can start at the 10th hole provided that the 9th hole is completely clear – no cutting in!

How do I buy tokens for the driving range?

Members can obtain contactless cards for the ball machine and load them with credits at the bar.

Savings for regular range users can be made by purchasing an annual ball card.

I believe I can get reduced green fees / free golf at other courses, is this correct?

As a playing member at Ulverston, you receive a free Cumbria County Card which entitles you to half price golf at all courses in Cumbria. Certain restrictions may be in place so call in advance to book tee times.

Also, Ulverston is a member of the 1895 club. You are entitled to courtesy of the course at other clubs in the 1895 club, but must contact the club you intend to visit in advance as certain restrictions may be in place. You will also need a letter of introduction from our Club Manager-Secretary which you can arrange via the office. Further information can be found HERE.
Finally, we have a number of reciprocal deals with other golf clubs offering reduced green fees. A list of participating clubs is available on the ‘Mixed Golf’ noticeboard which is located just off the foyer on the way into the men’s locker room.

How do I access the Members’ Hub?

Click on the ‘Members’ Hub‘ option at the top right of the club website.

You will then be asked to sign in with your HOWDIDIDO email and password. If you are not already registered on HOWDIDIDO you will need to register using the same email address you gave to the club as your contact address.

Once you have signed in you will be able to see club news, competition results, handicap information, your bar card balance and transactions, club documents and club diary.

The Members’ Hub is also available via an app that you can download to your phone or tablet – search for &’ClubV1 Members Hub’ in the App Store.

Is there a dress code for the course and clubhouse?

Yes, all members and visitors should familiarise themselves with the club’s dress policy.

What is the club’s policy on the use of mobile phones?

Mobiles should be used discreetly around the clubhouse by making and receiving calls away from other members.

They should be kept on silent whilst out on the golf course unless required for emergency reasons.
